The coronavirus pandemic has turned our world upside down in many ways this past (almost) year. While a lot of activities and businesses have been put on hold for San Diegans, nearly all outdoor activities are currently open along with outdoor patio seating and takeout at restaurants. Of course, remember to wear a mask and maintain social distance while you enjoy both virtual and in-person activities. Read on for our guide to the coolest indoor and outdoor things you can still eat, see, and do in America’s Finest City.

Go on a private farm tour

Olivenhain Farms offers private farm tours for $60 an hour for one family (of up to six, additional cost thereafter). When multiple families want to get together the second family add on would be $10 per person, with no fee for non-walking siblings.

The farm tour includes an orchard and garden tour (bring a basket to take home goodies in season!), animal interaction (goats, chickens, ducks, bunnies, and their piglet Sweet Pea), and fresh goat milk and duck egg tasting.

See the lights at the San Diego Botanic Garden

Botanic Wonderland is an outdoor seasonal lighting experience, where visitors can safely stroll amidst lights throughout various areas within the Garden’s 37 acres, or just relax near a fire pit.

Many spectacular garden areas are adorned with lights and decorations including the Dickinson Family Education Conservatory, Toni’s Treehouse, the Rainforest and Waterfall, the Lawn Garden, Canary Islands/Cork Oak Grove and Seeds of Wonder Children’s Garden. Additional lit spaces allow for a beautiful, walk-through experience.

This family-friendly event includes festive displays of lighted animals, laser lighting and fire pits, and their plant collection illuminated in a way you have not experienced before.

Reservations are required and are $18 for adults and $12 for children.
