We’re getting ready to furnish our newest listing, and as I started loading up the Amazon cart I saw that I had purchased the same bed sheet set 68 times. 68 times?? That’s the definition of brand loyalty if there ever was one. We’ve done a lot of product research and testing over the last few years (plus feedback from guests) and feel like we have sorted through the “meh” items and have also found a couple of stand outs along the way. Here’s a list of some of our favorite bedroom items!
Sad truth: I used to be totally swayed by price tags, especially when it came to bed linens. So when we were first deciding on sheets for The Rockaway House and Steven told me about these $30 sheets on Amazon I was extremely skeptical. But here we are two years later and it’s the only brand I’ll buy and I’ll tell anyone who will listen about them. I’m basically an unpaid brand rep.
No issues with getting stretched out, pilling or unraveling. They get softer after every wash. And if you don’t want to take my word for it, then have a look at the 100,000+ reviews on Amazon. 😉 We typically pair them with these white quilts which are soft and stain resistant.
Mattresses were another thing I was a price snob about. A $250 bed-in-a-box? What’s the catch? But there is no catch. They’re just good mattresses.
They come in a few different thicknesses and while I haven’t noticed any difference in terms of comfort between the 10″ and the 12″, I wouldn’t recommend going any lower than the 10″ (they start to look a little flimsy at 8″, IMO).
We first bought this sound machine because one of our properties is subject to noise on trash pick-up days and we wanted to offer a buffering option for sleeping in on those days. But we got so much positive feedback about it that we started including it at all of our properties. It has a few different sound options (waves, rain, fan, etc.) and we haven’t had an issue with any that we’ve purchased (over 15 of them at this point).
Now that you’ve switched to your mattress-in-a-box and freed yourself from needing a box spring, a platform bed is all you’ll need. We’ve purchased this Zinus platform bed for the bedrooms at multiple properties. The no-headboard option helps with the tricky bed-under-a-window scenario we often find ourselves in (little Mission Beach bedrooms often force your room layout). Or maybe it’s time to let your creativity shine with a DIY headboard project?
There’s nothing worse than checking in to an Airbnb late at night, after a long day of traveling, and having to reach behind the bed or nightstands to find an outlet and plug in your almost dead phone. Ok, I’m sure there are worse scenarios but still, that sucks, right? So we took out the guesswork and fumbling around and put this charging station on each nightstand. An easy, $14 amenity that we’re happy to provide!
