If you want to help support the San Diego community and burn some pre-Thanksgiving meal calories simultaneously, what better way than to participate in a Turkey Trot?

Thanksgiving is a magical time of the year when families are gathering, and delicious food is prepared and consumed.

Whether you are hosting or attending the feast, you won’t regret getting up early on Thanksgiving Day to burn some calories. The weather us usually very pleasant as it is San Diego we’re talking about. So if you aren’t into running, you can still attend to cheer on the runners!

Read on for some information on the Encinitas and Oceanside Turkey Trots and where to stay if you don’t already have a place!

O’Side Turkey Trot – Thanksgiving Morning

Run, walk, or trot in your favorite costume and participate in this fabulous running event before you indulge in your Thanksgiving dinner.

This event offers a costume contest, largest teams’ competition, fabulous live entertainment, live runner tracking, and finisher medals for all participants. Recognized as one of the Top Trots in the country by Runner’s World Magazine and the Los Angeles Times, the trot attracts visitors from 46 States and 460 cities so be sure to sign up early!

The 5M (5 miles) starts at 6:45am and the 5K (3.1 miles) starts at 8:05am, both from the same location The Strand and Seagaze.

Runner’s perks include a custom T-Shirt, custom finisher medal, free race photos, live finisher results and rankings, and age group awards for local and open.

If you don’t want to participate in the race but still want to get involved, you can also volunteer. They accept volunteers of any age. The dates that volunteers will be needed are Tuesday, November 22; Wednesday, November 23; and Thursday, November 24.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Move Your Feet Before You Eat Foundation which is helping to solve the healthcare crisis one step at a time. 

The O’side Turkey Trot is a great experience for close friends and family to get together for a fun Thanksgiving day experience.

Encinitas Turkey Trot – Thanksgiving Morning

If you haven’t walked or run along the Pacific Coast in Encinitas during November, then you must save the date for this year’s Encinitas Turkey Trot and get ready to have a lot of fun!! The early November mornings offer a beautiful sunrise and the Pacific Ocean waves always glisten. 

The 10k Starts at 7:30 am and the 5k Starts at 8:00 am under the famous “ENCINITAS” sign on Coast Highway 101. 

The costume and awards ceremony will follow the 10K race where the top three individuals who best exhibit the most Thanksgiving spirit will be awarded the winners! First place will be awarded $250, second place $150 and third place $100.

Parking is available at the following locations: Encinitas Library, Encinitas City Hall, Coaster Station, Moonlight Beach, and surface streets on 2nd and 3rd street. Sign up here!
